CHICAGO (AP) — Republican Rep. Judy Biggert is calling for Michael Steele to resign from his post as chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Biggert, who represents Chicago’s western suburbs, says Steele’s recent comments about the Afghanistan War were “a huge mistake.”

In an appearance on WLS-AM radio Wednesday, Biggert called his position “outrageous” and said Steele should step down.

Steele recently said the war in Afghanistan was a mistake, as well as a conflict chosen by President Barack Obama.

But the war began long before Obama was elected, and most Republican officials support the war.
