JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) __ Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has been
meeting with military forces in Afghanistan.
Nixon said Friday that he visited an emergency field hospital
and met with National Guard troops deployed from units based in
Joplin and Poplar Bluff. The governor says he also received
briefings from Gen. David Petraeus, the top military commander in
Afghanistan, and U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry.
Nixon is traveling with governors from Massachusetts, Minnesota,
South Dakota and Vermont. He spoke to reporters Friday on a
conference call.
Earlier this week, Nixon traveled with the other governors to
Iraq. He also was among five governors who took a similar trip last
July to Iraq and Afghanistan.
