Raising hotel tax would send the wrong message, CVC warns
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Clayton and Richmond Heighrts had better hold off on the notion of raising their hotel tax, the Convention and Visitor’s Commission warns.
President Kitty Ratcliffe says such a move wouldn’t be good for Clayton, Richmond Heights or the entire area.
“There is already more than a 15% tax on hotels in both of those communities. The numbers are slightly different but each one is about 15%” said Ratcliffe.
She says raising the tax would put the communities at a competitive disadvantage because they would have the highest hotel tax in the state.
Recently the Richmond Heights and Clayton Coucils voted to put the issue to the voters on November 2nd.
