FEMA flood maps change St. Charles County flood plain
SUNSET HILLS, MO (KMOX)-Very few people stopped by as FEMA officials unveiled the preliminary flood maps for St. Louis County Wednesday night, but Thursday night’s unveiling of the St. Charles County maps will likely draw a much larger crowd.
FEMA officials say the St. Louis County maps are little changed from the previous version, but the story is different in St. Charles County.
FEMA Spokesman Josh Deberge tells KMOX, “Those (the St. Charles County) maps do put more folks into the flood plain. There were some changes with some levee deaccreditation that have an effect on the flood plain.”
That means more property owners will be required to buy flood insurance and insurance premiums for some will increase.
The maps are scheduled to take effect late next year.
The St. Charles County maps will be released at the St. Charles County Administration Building, from 6pm to 8pm Thursday evening.
If you want to see the maps in your area, contact your local government offices.
