GOP expands majority in Mo. Legislature
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Republican sweep at the polls extended into the Missouri Legislature where the GOP expanded its control of the state Senate and state House.
Two Democratic senators lost their re-election bids and numerous Democratic House members appear to have been defeated. The Republicans also picked up roughly a half-dozen open seats.
The Republicans now appear to control more than 100 seats in the 163-member Missouri House. That is the highest level since at least the GOP returned to power in 2002 after more than a half-century in the minority.
Half of the 34-member state Senate was up for election. The Republicans claimed nearly all those seats, expanding their majority.
