Pujols contract update

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Albert Pujols says he wants to remain a Cardinal.
But, he wouldn’t tell reporters Sunday at the Winter Warmup fan fest what kind of new contract he’s seeking, “Hopefully we can get something done. And if that doesn’t happen, we’ll figure something else out.”
The All-Star slugger could become a free agent at the end of the 2011 season.
Cards owner Bill DeWitt Jr. tells KMOX there’s nothing new to announce from the bargaining table, “We’re not going to discuss the negotiations while they are going on. At some point we’ll obviously make clear where we stand. However, it’s early and we’re not ready to do that at this point.”
DeWitt says every effort will be made to retain Pujols, but he won’t elaborate on that point.
The Cardinals and Pujols confirm the player has set a Spring Training deadline for negotiations— he doesn’t want his agent to talk with the team during the season, saying it would be a distraction in the clubhouse.

What on earth does this character do that is worth so much money? Does he cure devastating disease? Does he build housing? Does he eliminate deadly weather conditions? Does he save lives? What? Please tell me.
